Axys Stockbroking, licensed by Financial Services Commission, recently published an incendiary report on Tourism in Mauritius as of June 2014. The local media nonetheless missed out on the report conclusions, diffusing the loaded bombshell and annihilating its potential for change in this weakening pillar of our economy. L'Express was the only one to offer a simple surface compte-rendu, offering mere 336 words about what they deemed as the most important pieces of information. [LINK] Le Defi Media Group [LINK] contributed to the topic with a 436-word review of the press conference of Min. of Tourism on June 10, without ever putting forward the powerful statements mentioned in the report. Le Mauricien, on its side, decided it was not newsworthy, perhaps in such politically eventful times! But here I am thinking someone should speak up about this report!

Sunday morning dawned pretty early for me and to the left is the reason for my aborted sleep-in today. This big white puffy baby did indeed need its biannual trip the veterinarian; its long curly hairs demanded a good trim, and off we drove to Vacoas! Although this perfect Sunday weather called for a beach day, hard work was awaiting. The relatively short drive was punctuated by thoughts of the impending arm workout I was about to endure, holding this jittery baby! Needless to mention how scared it always is at the sight of that place. Today though, I was scared as well. Oddly, the vet is located just a street past Abattoir (French for 'slaughterhouse') road! But, it was no ominous sign. All went well & here's what I got out of it! Holidays are this time of the year when an air of freedom hovers around us. For most of us, university students, though, it is that time of the year when you probably work even harder, getting yourself a part-time job, fighting for an internship or revising/preparing for the next academic year (who am I fooling, that last part consists of a small small minority!). Holidays are indeed as you grow older, paradoxically, time for working harder - giving yourself more physically. But what about those intellectual selfless pleasures holidays also happen to be a provider of? What about those pleasures the body cannot provide? Having the privilege of actually having a few weeks off - and I mean OFF as in doing nothing but chill all day - I have started to rekindle an old passion, one which never really left me for that matter: Art. Indeed, whether it's writing or drawing or painting (not yet singing though!), I believe it is important to let your artistic persona take over from time to time. And today, it was cinema, audio-visual art. « Contrairement à certaines, je n’aime pas me baser sur des ragots et autres on-dit, donc, je m’y suis rendue pour pouvoir parler en connaissance de cause. » writes Candy Lafolle in her latest blog post [LINK]. If Fashionista SMC continues to stay on everyone’s lips, it seems that the focus is shifting towards baseless feuds; but again, this is the fashion industry, and what is such an industry without the petty bickering? So this is why I deemed it right to settle the scores, or at least, offer an alternative interpretation of Candy’s post... With some free time on my hands, I thought why not. Why not another one Fashion Update - about the most fashionable fashion event of the season, says Mode et Critique Mauritius (MCM) Admin. But hopes went crashing down after the, let's admit, not very fashionable opening show. Read why! Here we are again for our Sunday Review! As most of you probably watched, the second episode of Beauty Queen aired last night and seemed slightly longer than the premiere although the tripartite advert segments still managed to mess the show up, if the editing team hadn't already done enough of that already! Fancy some MODE-K insights? Read More! Beauty Queen Mauritius finally aired last night around 9 10 p.m. with an oddly large portion of the 26-minute programme being made up of commercials, of which SERVO by Indian Oil, MPCB and Silver Dollar Production had the highlights! This leads us to question the legitimacy of this TV show, the 'first' reality TV Show based on modelling. Get the insights now. Read more.

The competition is ON, well nearly! As you might have heard, or not, Beauty Queen Mauritius is the 'first' reality TV Show on the island, says Le Mauricien, and premieres tonight on MBC1 as from 9p.m. Timing is thus perfect for some MODE-K insight on this 12-week modelling-based competition created by local fashion designer slash choreographer slash business woman slash so much more, Nalini Aubeeluck! With winter kicking in hard this month, Khatleen Minerve nevertheless managed to get a guy to undress for her... for a photo shoot! What else! Fashion Photographer Khatleen Minerve brings you a fresh face, Yoann Monty, who sure knows how to pose and work out [Want his ab routine? Let me know and I will try my best to get it to you asap!] She says "The shoot is about showcasing a very casual attitude amidst the Mauritian winter weather. We have cold and hot temperatures in one day, and the best place to show that is at a beach: on the rocks, bare chest, shorts and barefoot is the way to go; and when you are at rest, enjoying a little moment, throw in a V-neck white t-shirt and a cardigan to give off a casual cool look." But enough of blabla, here's the piece de resistance: MODE-K brings you The Fit Stop. With the latest collections filling the shelves of the Mall of Mauritius, soon to be worn by the mall walking models, it occurred to me that I had not written anything about one of my fashion spots in Curepipe - NEWGEN. Indeed, the Fashion Store has opened its shutters in Curepipe for a few months now and I must admit that I was positively surprised. It has a very urban store design with, nice options...for girls. Yes, once again, it seems boys are left on the side. Still, I decided to sneak a peek one day, and ended up buying Rs900-worth of clothing. But how exactly can we shop there? Why would I send you there? Read more. |
