« Contrairement à certaines, je n’aime pas me baser sur des ragots et autres on-dit, donc, je m’y suis rendue pour pouvoir parler en connaissance de cause. » writes Candy Lafolle in her latest blog post [LINK]. If Fashionista SMC continues to stay on everyone’s lips, it seems that the focus is shifting towards baseless feuds; but again, this is the fashion industry, and what is such an industry without the petty bickering? So this is why I deemed it right to settle the scores, or at least, offer an alternative interpretation of Candy’s post... I would like to start by pointing out a crucial aspect of this whole ‘debate’: Candy’s credibility in this story - in much the same fashion as mine was put in question for my reliance on hear-says. Candy writes easily about the Fashionista SMC, understandably so given she attended the event, in apparently a dark blazer (who cares?). But as goes the saying, an image is worth a thousand words, and quite honestly, I would have loved some multimedia support (pictures and/or videos) to prove her bold statement that the models were “superbement coachés portant de la haute couture, ici, cela n’a pas de prix” and “Les defiles étaient excellents, surtout lorsqu’on prend en considération le fait que beaucoup des mannequins sont novices.” Of course, as blogger, we all expect to be read and heeded and, in this line of thought, try to back our arguments/views with material evidence, other than our words. Are we to believe Candy’s flowery language word for word? Especially when, let’s be honest, there is no evidence so far as to the ‘superb-ness’ of the catwalk models. First of all, this superlative annoys me, even more when it comes from someone who claims to be neutral and critical. Secondly, to associate ‘superbly coached’ with novice models, as MCM Admin qualified himself, sounds slightly extrapolated. Did Candy really mean that for novice models they did a good job? As in, here’s a baby starting to learn how to walk, although a little wobbly, it’s a good start! Saying that one was excellent for a beginner is nothing but a polite way of saying ‘effort was present, but it could still be better’. It’s like seeing Monica Belluci on a D&G advert without D&G jewels – although it’s not bad, it’s just not it! But is then such level acceptable for an event as highly awaited in the fashion world as Fashionista was? Or was Candy simply trying to praise MCM Admin aka Business Partner David Stafford who was Runway Choreographer at Fashionista SMC in some ever-so-obvious conflict of interest? If the conflict of interest is yet unclear, allow me to put in light the relationship between MCM Admin, aka Boy Groove Business Partner, and Haute Couture House Lionnet & Fauzou. If another little bird brought me inside information as to the long-time acquaintanceship of both parties, it would then be normal for Candy to write in high terms of the Lionnet & Fauzoo runway, but for it to be so obvious is simply too easy and decieving. « Voiles et crêpe de soie valsaient au rythme de la musique pompeuse, des cristaux de Swarovski brillaient telles les vitrines de Christie’s lors de l’exposition de bijoux de Mme Taylor. Mon mascara n’a pas survécu à mes larmes d’émotions. Tout est passé trop vite. On aimerait tant vivre dans un univers où tout le monde serait habillé par Anais et Fabien... » After reading this extract, even I had regrets not being there to enjoy the show. Candy’s mascara even rolled down, that much? REALLY? So much so that everyone should be wearing Lionnet & Fauzou ? Perhaps fashion critique Candy missed Ted Onno’s walk, with what looked like women’s Bootcut lavender pants? If bloggers are meant to be genuinely critical and open about their views, I wonder what this was: a too-easy marketing stunt? Even if I loved many of pieces from the Lionnet & Fauzou ‘Aquatic’ Collection, I must still admit that I found some pieces simply not to my likings – especially the menswear section. But that is not the matter at hands right now, let’s focus back to questioning the credibility of Candy’s latest blog post. If her attempts at sounding unbiased failed to fool me, her concluding statement actually made me laugh: “Bref, un bon mélange loin des foires où les MUA côtoient les marchands d’épices.” If this (Left) does not look like a ‘foire' as we all know of, then I beg for another definition of the word! Bref, I was disappointed and could really not be bothered to drive all the way to Mer Rouge for nothing out of the ordinary after hearing feedback from the 'grand' opening. I will nonetheless apologise to my readers for my lack of commitment, reminding you at the same time to judge for yourself, question the status quo and above all, be genuinely critical, because this is, to me, the only way to help and contribute to the advancement of any concept, be it fashion, religion or society at large. On this note, I hope to close the Fashionista SMC chapter and all the entailing petty bickering that is certainly starting to look like a 'Battle of the Blogs'. After all, we are all trying to make a change, for the better... And to my dearest fellow blogger, looking forward to reading your next article, a genuine one this time... perhaps about the Lionnet & Fauzou Collection? Sine Cerau

OMG! This is the first time I am reading a proper article. Mr Kelvin, thumbs up! This is what I call positive critics. Fashionista was a 'Fiasco'. No Designers of 'Grand Calibre'. I guess that people who knows their Subject well like Sanjeet B, Lida O', Sweetie R, Anabelle F and the rest who knows their subject well would not participate in such 'Foire'. I heard they refused to participate. Some new coming Designers like Fabien Fauzou who have just finished university and is still experimenting, Lionnet who understands 'couture'well and can copy very well from magasines without any concept, I cannot see a colour palette here. A bit of versace, Gucci, prada were found in lionnet n fauzou. A fusion of everything. I am not a Designer but I follow trends and know the work of each and every Designers worldwide. There were all sorts of makeup brands that we don't even know. Fashionista was a mess. We heard that they even gave some people some free corners. Mr Kelvin I appreciate your way of writing and please post more informations on your blog. We need some real fashion informations… I am hereby counting on your blog. Thank you for Sharing.

Wow, this is one positive feedback! Thanks a lot Angina. I was only trying to say out loud what others thought deep down. Although it seems I might have been mistaken as to the existing friendship between MCM Admin and L&F. But anyway, it's heart-warming to receive such comment. Stay tuned :)
