Axys Stockbroking, licensed by Financial Services Commission, recently published an incendiary report on Tourism in Mauritius as of June 2014. The local media nonetheless missed out on the report conclusions, diffusing the loaded bombshell and annihilating its potential for change in this weakening pillar of our economy. L'Express was the only one to offer a simple surface compte-rendu, offering mere 336 words about what they deemed as the most important pieces of information. [LINK] Le Defi Media Group [LINK] contributed to the topic with a 436-word review of the press conference of Min. of Tourism on June 10, without ever putting forward the powerful statements mentioned in the report. Le Mauricien, on its side, decided it was not newsworthy, perhaps in such politically eventful times! But here I am thinking someone should speak up about this report!

Sunday morning dawned pretty early for me and to the left is the reason for my aborted sleep-in today. This big white puffy baby did indeed need its biannual trip the veterinarian; its long curly hairs demanded a good trim, and off we drove to Vacoas! Although this perfect Sunday weather called for a beach day, hard work was awaiting. The relatively short drive was punctuated by thoughts of the impending arm workout I was about to endure, holding this jittery baby! Needless to mention how scared it always is at the sight of that place. Today though, I was scared as well. Oddly, the vet is located just a street past Abattoir (French for 'slaughterhouse') road! But, it was no ominous sign. All went well & here's what I got out of it! Holidays are this time of the year when an air of freedom hovers around us. For most of us, university students, though, it is that time of the year when you probably work even harder, getting yourself a part-time job, fighting for an internship or revising/preparing for the next academic year (who am I fooling, that last part consists of a small small minority!). Holidays are indeed as you grow older, paradoxically, time for working harder - giving yourself more physically. But what about those intellectual selfless pleasures holidays also happen to be a provider of? What about those pleasures the body cannot provide? Having the privilege of actually having a few weeks off - and I mean OFF as in doing nothing but chill all day - I have started to rekindle an old passion, one which never really left me for that matter: Art. Indeed, whether it's writing or drawing or painting (not yet singing though!), I believe it is important to let your artistic persona take over from time to time. And today, it was cinema, audio-visual art. |
