Holidays are this time of the year when an air of freedom hovers around us. For most of us, university students, though, it is that time of the year when you probably work even harder, getting yourself a part-time job, fighting for an internship or revising/preparing for the next academic year (who am I fooling, that last part consists of a small small minority!). Holidays are indeed as you grow older, paradoxically, time for working harder - giving yourself more physically. But what about those intellectual selfless pleasures holidays also happen to be a provider of? What about those pleasures the body cannot provide? Having the privilege of actually having a few weeks off - and I mean OFF as in doing nothing but chill all day - I have started to rekindle an old passion, one which never really left me for that matter: Art. Indeed, whether it's writing or drawing or painting (not yet singing though!), I believe it is important to let your artistic persona take over from time to time. And today, it was cinema, audio-visual art. I sat down, comfy against my cushions, to watch Quartet, by Dustin Hoffman on Canal+ earlier this morning, which portrays the lives of retired musicians in a luxurious old-age home in some English countryside as they prepare for their annual gala. More than just a movie about old people who happen to have funny lines and exquisite Irish and British accents (yes, we all have a thing for these accents!), this movie is a call, to every audience, for no regrets. It is one of those movies which strongly appeal to me, and not only for its content but also for what it subtly urges you to do: reflect. Movies that call for a moment of introspection, even for the tiniest lapse of time, are those which make a difference and are, by consequence, to my standards, movies which ought to be watched. "Quartet", in a sweetly melancholic tone but never gloomily saddening, reminds us how life, no matter what happens and what mistakes are made, ceaselessly goes on. The strongest storyline is the bond between protagonists Reg and Jean, who were once married for a short period. Their love nonetheless lived on, smeared somewhat by mistakes, ego and pride. Reunited at the dusk of their lives in the retirement home, the former lovers, battling feelings of regret, shame and timid admiration and care, finally make peace. This storyline is particularly touching because many of us, I can be sure of that, are in or have been dealing, at some point, with a troubled relationship. Relationships are never easy and allowing pride, ego and dishonesty to seep in results almost every time in the much-dreaded broken hearts. If that's how you're feeling right now, do watch this movie. No Regrets, my motto for quite some time now, although not having spared my swimming the troubled waters of love, have nonetheless guided my heart and mind through moving on, if I can call it this way. Living with no regrets ( and I know that it's being said over and over by all motivational-gurus) is harder to experience than what it seems. Asking yourself the right questions, at the right time and having the right answers (that's the hardest part) might be the solution. My advice: dare to try. At least then, you will not have regrets. In fact, the easiest way to allow regrets to smear your conscience is actually failing to act out on your feelings. Although it might be scary to some, crazy to others or plain impossible for few others, I believe this is how I managed to stay on track when I swam these troubled waters these past months. So if you feel like you need to talk to that one person, or call or write or draw, do it. At least you'll know that you tried. No Regrets! Sine Cera

Succinct rubric which rekindled my passion for writing, symbolising my super hectic schedule during holidays where Canal + is my best mate. I never have time to sit down and get bored- too many passions to follow! I would definitely include Quartet on my must-watch list and 'no regrets' is a full-on mantra always ;) Always such a pleasure to read your blog!
