The competition is ON, well nearly! As you might have heard, or not, Beauty Queen Mauritius is the 'first' reality TV Show on the island, says Le Mauricien, and premieres tonight on MBC1 as from 9p.m. Timing is thus perfect for some MODE-K insight on this 12-week modelling-based competition created by local fashion designer slash choreographer slash business woman slash so much more, Nalini Aubeeluck! I can not begin this blog post without mentioning about how much Beauty Queen Mauritius makes me think of America's Next Top Model, not only in its conception but also in its public image. We have all, nor maybe not all, seen the Facebook Promotional picture [If not, here's the LINK] and the resemblance to both these above pictures is undeniable. Now we all know that imitation is the best form of flattery, but to actually use nearly same outfits (same fabric) and same group pose, is something else. Have you seen the Teaser video as well? Well, I know for sure you haven't because, as of today, the YouTube video has 96 views! "Beauty Queen is subject to become the most viewed show on our national channel MBC." says Nalini Aubeeluck on her website [Link] For a teaser which cannot mark over +1000 views, I am honestly doubtful about the former statement. But on second thought, social marketing is in its early stages on development in Mauritius, so let's not camp on it! Here's the Teaser, and it'll take only 41 seconds of your life! Get a foretaste and click play! P.S. The music theme is not bad at all! We also come to know who the second judge (at least, that's how it looks) will be: Suchhi Shukla. After a quick online research, I learned that he is the director of Silver Dollar Production, from Mumbai, Maharashtra. There is not much about his background in modelling, but I presume him being a main sponsor (partner even) grants him the right to judge 'beauty'. BQM's Nigel Barker will be renowned Mauritian photographer Kunal Jankee, so I learned from Le Mauricien, again. Looking forward to seeing his work! As for the selected girls, I still haven't quite made up my mind. I don't mean to be rude, but these flashy pink latex-lookalike bustier and long gloves are simply too much for me. I am blinded to the point of noticing nothing else! Now here's a real teaser as in a preview which aims at drawing in the viewers. One can simply not call a video a 'teaser' when, in reality, it is nothing but the opening credits. P.S. The preview attracted +16K viewers on CWTelevision's YouTube channel. To be also noted that the BQM YouTube 'Teaser' has been uploaded by an individual. There's not even a proper YouTube channel for the TV show. The great thing about BQM though is its sense of transparency. Once you get on the website, you are introduced to a load of information, only to my delight. Now, information is great, but proper usable data is expected. According to a survey by the MBC, the audience for the slot in which BQM will be broadcasted is as follows (left): a simple addition will give you a total number of inhabitants amount to 2.2 million. WHAT? Are those percentages equal to the No. of inhabitants? Can't be, for the figures in the latter column differ from each other. The last statement honestly weirded me out: of which? Which figure are we talking about here? Let's not get picky and fussy, transparency is still on the forefront! Indeed, you are given sponsorship deals, packages and the Terms and Conditions. Bref, this is what an effective sale strategy is! Much appreciated! Give me two more hours, and I could calculate the net income of the TV show, which, already has legitimate sponsors such as MADO, MPCB, Angsana, POSSAL, ALDO, amongst others! With such sponsors, with concrete and high public image, could the TV show but yet another MBC deception?
If I am honestly, looking forward to the premiere, somewhere deep down, the ceaseless apprehension of MBC's deja-vu over and over montage is utterly present. Let's hope for something different, young and vibrant! The setting will undoubtedly be of high standing (Angsana Resort); it's now all in the hands of the editing team. #PrayToGod Keep in touch with Beauty Queen Mauritius by liking it's Facebook Page! Tells us how excited you are about the premiere tonight! Sine Cera

I only tried to stick to the facts, which are, undeniably, that way :P But I do agree with you, Mauritius is the only country where being a multi-tasker - a jack of all trades - gets you recognition by the masses. As for the photographer, he must be generously remunerated, for being part of such a low-standard production.

Hell yeah, I totally agree with this blog. There's absolutely no originality and no entertainment in the show. It's the same old crappy monotonous drama and a great waste of time.
