Here we are again for our Sunday Review! As most of you probably watched, the second episode of Beauty Queen aired last night and seemed slightly longer than the premiere although the tripartite advert segments still managed to mess the show up, if the editing team hadn't already done enough of that already! Fancy some MODE-K insights? Read More! New week, new perspective, or nearly. Indeed, we were finally acquainted with the twelve finalists, who all got privileged on-screen time, although some finalists enjoyed more time to express themselves than others. Now, let's agree that it had nothing to do with favoritism, but pure shyness on behalf of some of the girls! You might say that I am a cry-baby but that moving story of Aurelie and how she nearly committed the 'unrepairable' actually moved me! Even though it was saddening to see her cry on TV, fact remains that a TV show promoting women probably did not need to go that far? I found it shocking that the MBC aired such a controversial scourge of society: suicide. Perhaps BQM wants to establish the actual image of the Mauritian woman first, before building it up later throughout the season, but who am I fooling!? Perhaps BQM has no real concrete means to fulfill their noble vision? BQM probably only seeks to be profitable as a business product. #WhoKnows Fact still remains that the winner will enjoy a cover on the Indian magazine Films Today and a three-month scholarship to Attracting Acting School in India! Definitely worth a try for these young girls! That is, IF they plan on heading to India for a career in modelling or...acting? I find the line between acting and modelling very distinct, but it seems our multi-talented Jury Member simply does not. Then again, I am no model nor actor, and perhaps one field completes the other, in some way beyond my understanding. It seems the aim of this TV show is getting blurrier and blurrier. Jury Member, Indian Actor and Stage Director (wondering why he still did not offer his services to the MBC - the staging was horrible during the girls' presentation speeches!) Suchhi Kumar, director of Silver Dollar Productions, further introduced the aspect of acting. Mention needs to be made that he was a model as well ( keyword : was ). I read on 5-Plus Dimanche [LINK] that he is also setting up his production company in Mauritius. Aha! Now I get why they spent so much time on introducing, so colorfully, this jury member! We even saw extracts from his films! Was it really necessary to portray him in such a manner? We'd have accepted a simple and effective introduction by his real-life fiancee Nalini Aubeeluck! Oh! Didn't you know? Read it all on defimedia.info! Are you feeling something coming yet? So fashion designer Nalini Aubeeluck creates the TV Show to promote the image of women as well as her brand; fair enough. The show is then produced by the director of Silver Dollar Production who also happens to be our designer's fiance and who ultimately enjoys much promotional time (especially on last night's episode) further securing the foundations of his business on the island. Then comes the host of the show, aka Hans Aubeeluck, son of local designer. Family business or well-wrapped promotional package again? I still believe that there is much potential in that TV show but the staging is of poor quality, as is the writing of it, episode-wise. There is nothing to draw us in so far. No real mention of the big prize yet. No real competition aspect seen yet. Not even a single photo-shoot session (probably what we are ALL looking forward to!). Again, there is a huge amount of promotion - last night was Angsana Balaclava which had the spotlight, for about 3 long minutes, an official of the 'Boutique, Resort and Spa' spoke about their aim to help promote the image of women while splendid pictures of the resort and their facilities hovered around the screen. RED HERRING! Now I understand how the twelve finalists are able to stay there for fourteen days in double-bed rooms! With that much on-screen time for Angsana for free, no wonder they accepted to shelter the beautiful girls. Oh yeah, by the way, these girls all have potential! Let's hope to see some photo-shoot action next week so that we can finally plunge into competition and spot our favorites for this season! P.S. I loved the clapping session while watching/singing to "Whenever" by Shakira during Georgina Ragaven's coaching session! Might have helped the girls lose few calories and arms fat! So for now it's SEE YOU NEXT WEEK exclamation, with an overly exaggerated hand swirl a la Hans Aubeeluck! Oh and someone please dress this young model!? There is nothing more awkward than sleeves that don't make it to the wrist, the shoulder line too high and the tie squeezed too tight! #PoorThing Sine Cera
