With the 38th Cesars Ceremony last night which illuminated the magic and grandeur of the French 7th Art, I thought it was the right moment to talk about the soon-to-be released Mauritian movie named Julie. I, of course, couldn't let this premiere in the Mauritian audiovisual landscape go 'unblogged' about. Here's our review!

It seems that history has the chic to repeat itself in ways unexpected. Indeed, around the same time last year, fellow classmate and laureate Ashwin Thondee had shared his student path with MODE-K [Confessions of a Laureate] and this year, another ex-'Josephian' turned 'Royalist' has won the title of Laureate in the Economics side. Yes, today meet Geshan Rugjee, first in Economics side this year; yet another laureate who cared to share with us a little bit of his student life with hopes that others be pushed towards self-motivation and setting the bar higher! Want to know more about how he made it to the top? Well here's the interview! Ameerah (middle), surrounded by her close friends. It's been 2 weeks since the HSC results came out and yet ink is still pouring about the coveted Laureates. Today, MODE-K brings you Modern College Laureate Ameerah Anathallee who happens to have things to share, words of hope to unveil and special tips to uncover for potential laureates! Want to know her views about our education system? Want to know how her student career enabled her to claim this laureate title? Here's the interview!
The cyclonic season is BACK and unusually early this summer 2012-13! Satellite Image from grandbaie.mu _Her name is Anais and don't be fooled by her fruity/flowery name, this one seems to be a devastating date. The rapidly intensifying cyclone is nonetheless forecast to lose its strength; but that is not the main point of this post anyway! It's about the odd timing of cyclones this year. Indeed, remember Kuena [Link] which surprised us all (forever self-proclaimed meteorologist geeks) when she showed up in, wait for it, JUNE! Yes, a cyclone in winter! A cyclone in winter AND the cyclonic season starting incredibly early this year (we're half-way through October and the national meteorological services haven't even had time to upload the Cyclone Names List for the 2012-13 season[Link]!) with Anais, I wonder if climate change will expand the cyclonic season to a 10-month span, sparing only the coldest July-August! So, brace yourselves readers, this summer looks like it's going to be a bumpy, windy ride with once again incredibly inventive names! Until Mauritius Meteorological Services provide the Cyclone Names List for the season 2012-13, you can start sending your ideas for Anais' successor! Sine Cera
I thought the voice-off would act as The Voice of the show, taking over the host's role; but seems like Chef Dumont will fill in! Young Roshan Hassamal would have been better don't you think? Well, this revelation blew the whole initial interest. Like I said, every Competition TV show needs a host! Last for the road: Roshan says he's sad not be to part Super Chef! We all wanna say is that we are as well! Although his debut as host was dubious, it would have been nicer to have him on board. What do you think about it- Let us know by leaving comments! Sine Cera Image from Google I believe most of you must have been hooked up to your sofas last night for the Premiere of Tropical's Super Chef Season 2, around half past eight on MBC1. I missed it last night but certainly watched the rerun today and quite frankly, was really surprised - the a good way! The Long Beach Hotel provided exquisite setting and matched the show's requirements (or was it the other way round?) In any case, having the Sushi round outside the Japanese restaurant was a smart one - Ha! All in all, I thought it was a great production; FINALLY I wanna scream out! And here's why... Model of extension to SSR Airport - Google As recent visit to the airport of Mauritius has made me realize two things - first, my friends are all flying away for tertiary studies and second, that something big might be on its way to Mauritius. The massive construction going on at the airport right now - I feel awkward not having taken a picture of the gigantic metallic skeleton but anyway, I'm sure those of you who visited the SSR Airport recently know what I'm talking about - and the extensive improvement of our road network have been media feasts for months; criticized by some and acclaimed by others, the national upgrade the country it witnessing seem to be contradictory with the reality of figures. 10 mm embryo at 5 weeks I do realize the timing is odd given it's Mother's Day, but I think it is high time for the youth to speak out about this very 'trendy' affair! We have read about what politicians have said, what countries have done and what related NGOs have worked for, but I think we have left out half of the world- the younger half! So, here I am, talking about abortion (I know you are probably fed up of hearing/reading this over and over) because I believe youngsters need not shun this universal debate. Should abortion be authorized, legalized? If yes, in when should it be legal and when not? Who should be responsible for taking this decision? The questions will keep coming our way, but lets stay realistic and approach this with as much pragmatism as possible... |
