Image from Google I believe most of you must have been hooked up to your sofas last night for the Premiere of Tropical's Super Chef Season 2, around half past eight on MBC1. I missed it last night but certainly watched the rerun today and quite frankly, was really surprised - the a good way! The Long Beach Hotel provided exquisite setting and matched the show's requirements (or was it the other way round?) In any case, having the Sushi round outside the Japanese restaurant was a smart one - Ha! All in all, I thought it was a great production; FINALLY I wanna scream out! And here's why... Image from Facebook I remember the first season's smooth start -too smooth to my taste. The candidates barely talked, too shy or simply unguided while the montage was slightly below expected level. This year on the other hand, the candidates are lively, smiling and touching. We get to know few of them with small yet much appreciated parenthesis of their lives. And how can we stay unmoved by the oldest of them, white hair and wrinkled face, yet as involved as any other candidate. And what about the couple!? I don't know about you, but I think it was a nice part. Not only did it fill up some filming time qualitatively, but it also brought the whole competition to Mauritians, their homes and lives by portraying this cute young couple with which many of us relate to.I read on 5- Plus Dimanche' Parlons-en... that the production crew was made up of French and people from Reunion Island as well! Now I get how the level went up that much in only a year's time! Well structured on the whole, the four first knock-out rounds seemed to have, although maintaining a nice concatenation (I know it's such a weird word to say successive parts!), shortened the show's run-time. I think it should fit the 26-minute run-time category and although it sounds short, I believe they chose the appropriate format - they produced quality and not quantity! The show, from second one to its every end had no unused scenes and this was again a Plus point this year! Everything seemed to have been calculated to the meter, from the table settings to the candidates' walkways! It seems that this season is going to top it's precedent, and the sponsor list says it all: Tropical, InStyle, Air Austral and Sun Group of Hotels. Equally synonymous of this year's superiority is the Winner's prize : a Rs250 000 worth kitchen and a trip to Reunion Island (I think). The only negative point is that the show lacks it's backbone! Ye, every show needs its host! Just as the US Top Chef has its host beautiful Padma Lakshi [Host at Emmy Awards 2012], Tropical's Super Chef also needs its host! Now we all wanna ask: where the hell did Season 1 host Roshan Hassamal disappear? Was he not good enough to the French's taste? Is he busy with another project? Well, if you've got any idea, please let us know! Although some will say that Super Chef is a copycat of French Master Chef on TF1, I wanna tell you that imitation is the best form of flattery! And MBC needs somewhere to start right? Better copy on a major success than on Voisin Voisines [Trailer] for example! Have you been watching Super Chef? Did it make your drool of pleasure or ice to you to the bone? Let us know by leaving comments! Sine Cera
