Hindu Girls' College wants it all - 100% pass rate at SC level and 'their' Laureate Eshna Jeebaun...but can are they really entitled to both ? Image from Google This morning's assembly was one very few students would have missed for a very special guest was present - Laureate Eshna Jeebaun from Queen Elizabeth College, and yet, not really from QEC... The school rector says "She is our laureate!" while introducing Miss Jeebaun, accompanied by her father. After expressing her unconnected, mild satisfaction towards the HSC results and putting forward the fact that 3 girls in all were ranked in the Economics and Technical sides, she admitted that HGC didn't reiterate their SC 100% pass rate! Indeed, it seems like the rector is yet to be satisfied. Although there is nothing wrong in wanting excellence, constantly pushing forward the limits of the students' expectation might not be very nice to hear on the spot by the students, although it might - with a big M - bear its fruits later on. After few more words of encouragement to her 'girls', the rector let out the bombshell saying "She[Eshna Jeebaun] is our laureate!". This line was received with applause although we wonder whether it did really deserved this reply. Indeed, Eshna was a student of HGC since her Form 1 but left for Queen Elizabeth College after her brilliant results at the SC level. While Eshna says she truly believes 'her roots are here[Hindu Girls' College]' and that HGC built her to what she is now, we wonder if she would have been ranked 4th in Mauritius had she stayed there. Even back in the days, she excelled in Languages and made the pride and glory of HGC by writing in the newspaper about her all-time favorite Harry Potter and now that she's a laureate, it seems HGC wants a piece of the glimmer and shine! If she was built there, why did she have to leave ? And now that she's left, why the need to come back on the front scene ? If we listen to Ashwin Thondee, Laureate of the MCB Foundation Scholarship in yesterday's blog post, the extra competition might have been the deciding factor at QEC - one which was apparently not present in HGC two year back. SO, can HGC really claim that she is their laureate!? What do you think ? P.S. We look forward to interviewing Miss Jeebaun although much has already been said on her Radio performance this afternoon. Sine Cera

I don't really think HGC has the right to claim that scholarship as its own because when we ( Esh, Me and other hgc girls) were leaving for QEC, the rude, harsh and egoistic comments we have had to go through on behalf of the hgc department ( not to mention names ) is beyond what you can imagine. We were told clearly by some1 very famous in school ( again not to mention name) :entouka, okaine tifi kine kit hgc pou qec pane vine loreat, zot pou retourner plorer... Moreover, when we went back to hgc to visit some teachers, we were treated...as unwanted people,as if they couldnt bear to see us at hgc... and now when it comes to the glory, y should hgc take the pride?? CERTAINLY NOT!! The pride goes solely and soley to QEC. After having heard abt the assembly and all that stuff, the egoistic attitudes of some people out there have been confirmed. ( perhaps this side of hgc u would never have known, but its the truth...a truth confronted by all the 6 units who left hgc 4 qec )

No, all the credit SOLELY goes to Q.E.C ! I have been to HGC for 6 years and took the H.S.C examinations at 17 only :) And I have passed my examinations too! Had I told or requested them to allow me take the examinations on the name of their school they would have discouraged me ! Frankly speaking, H.G.C is not the best school! I know many students from Q.E.C and R.C.P.L and they are completely different from those of H.G.C. Many say that students from star schools are self-centered. But the veracity is that students from H.G.C are really rude and selfish! Their mental outlook of the teachers and students from H.G.C are definitely ruining their results :) Frankly speaking, students from H.G.C cannot become Laureates for they do not even know what is meant by excellency ! Their perception about life itself is WRONG ! H.G.C can be synonymously referred to as HELL :)

The only school in Mauritius who has Goddess Saraswati at the entrance ( reception ) is The Hindu Girls' College ! :) So just imagine how much blessed our students are ! Try to ponder upon this ;) And concerning Sanskara Latasha you are absolutely right !
