The stressful wait is nearly over for thousands...yet, something bigger is waiting for them. It is clear now that the wait is almost over! Fates will be sealed in less than 24 hours and while some might let tears of joy roll down their cheeks, others would take some time to seriously ponder over the question of doing the Form 5 once again...Mixed feelings of anxiety, fear and acceptance will be leading the SC 2011 generation for one of the most important dates in their student life. This is all pre-results 'symptoms' but what happens after results excitement fade out and the million-dollar question emerges : What will I do next ? Well, while some students prefer the cocoon they've been building for 5 years in their respective schools with their classmates and teachers and laboratories...the most courageous ones chose to migrate to new destinations on the upper plateau. Of course, not everyone has the choice; only the brightest do. The Student Elite. Indeed, 6 units result is equivalent to a VIP-backstage pass which gives access to almost any college. This Great Migration as I call it is a double-sided coin - it can be beneficial as it can have flaws... While giving the opportunity for those in rural areas to evolve in an urban setting with 'better' education, it can affect students - who tend to lose their bearings and thus decline academically and some even morally. One perfect example of such migration is that of Phoenix SSS boys; they might be the leaders in terms of student moving after SC results. Last year, after the Great Migration, ex-Phoenix SSS students came and conquered the front scene! Ruling two of the most 'famous' colleges (for reasons we are not going to deal with right here) namely the Royal College of Curepipe and the John Kennedy College with the ultimate 'Head Boy' title, ex-Phoenix SSS boys gave an impressive performance not only academically but also with regards to extra-curricular activities. If we were to spot out all Phoenix SSS students among Best Delegates/Delegations in MUN 2011 Competition, members of Students' Council/Prefect Body, we would certainly be surprised as to how many 'pur sang' of colleges are actually on the front line! Of course, this Great Migration seems to undermine the sense of belonging which is the foundation of the our Mauritian system. We all use every opportunity to voice out of sense of belonging whether be it through Inter-college sports events, debate competitions and even through our uniforms! Wearing your badge is like boasting with a nice student ID which tells a lot more about you than any ID card could ever do! So, is this phenomenon not going to shatter the real sense of belonging ? What happen when you have to choose between your old school where you've spent 5 years and your new one with only few weeks down the timeline ? But on the other hand, this might very well be the cure to student discrimination or faction emergence...With more students knowing more of their 'kinsmen', true student solidarity at national level might eventually emerge. Whether the Royalists or the Purple Eagles are once again headed by ex-Phoenix SSS or whether the Great Migration propels a new pristine destination for students, fact remains that you will move to new colleges, new repositories of knowledge. Some even very young given the National Exams for Form 3 will be operational and allowing transfers for students! Meanwhile, the minutes are ticking away, and the SC results are relentlessly approaching...To those waiting for them, MODE-K wishes you the best! Stress but stay classy! P.S. Feel free to share your opinion on this major student phenomenon. Oh and for those HSC 2011students, well, one more Sine Cera

Indeed Kelvin,Akshay and jaynesh-ex Phoenix sss boys(if i'm not wrong they are the ones you are talking about) are the best examples to show that the migration from one school to another does not have much adverse effects on a particular student, rather can provide them with a momentum to achieve milestones in life. However,it is good to note that not everyone can be successful in so doing and be able to adjust in new environment. I personally believe that it is not a school which makes a student but its the other way round. If a student is determined to achieve success, is ready to work hard and of course if the latter wishes, he/she can certainly stay back and complete his/her hsc in his/her form5 school itself. I think that this year there won't be any great migration from normal schools to star schools because they already have their lower6 students(the A* system was already implemented in the education system at that time when the students concerned were in cpe). Well thats my opinion, everyone has his/her own views on this issue.

I think my A* system theory is a true one because i've heard in the news that star schools like RCC,QEC and DMC have achieved a 100% success at sc level. That means these schools already have their lower6 students for 2012; but this certainly raises important questions as to whether these "elite" schools will accept further admission of "alien" students in their lower6 classes.
