M&M, LACOSTE and GUESS open their closets for MODE-K to peek in! Bagatelle Mall of Mauritius is apparently still the be during weekends and although the New Year shopping craze is over and gone and school's back again, tons of individuals still pack up in the Food Court...but are the stores really working then ? This was an important question to which MODE-K might have some answers... After the Phoenix Les Halles report back in December 2011, the future of the then new Bagatelle Mall was put into question. Will the Mall fail as Phoenix Les Halles did. Would the stores have to set their shutters down? Well, after an afternoon interviewing major retailers, the future might not be that gloomy after all - might even be bright! M&M, multi-brand retailer says the store is dong good and some even THANK the admin for bringing luxury brands such as Roberto Cavalli, Dolce & Gabbana and Converse amongst their most prestigious international brands to Mauritius. It is true than no such brands we available in the island - genuine items anyway! With a price range stretching from Rs 200 (for mere accessories) to Rs20 000 (for D&G ensembles), the clientele is far from being restrictive! Note that the store co-owner is wearing a dress from the Desigual Summer Collection, available in store. Fidelity Cards are coming soon and promotional sales are to be conducted through private sales and cocktails for regular clients -note, those who spend a lot of money there - and runway shows to unveil new collections. LACOSTE, on the other hand, has no promotional offers planned anytime soon because, according to sales representative they "cannot put Sales since nothing much is left in store anyway." This leads me to believe that the store is indeed doing very well and I was made aware of that fact very, VERY precisely! With their new stock coming in soon in February, LACOSTE will keep selling their items from Rs 1500 (T-Shirts/Caps) to Rs 5000 (Watches shown besides) to Mauritians and why not, to tourists as well! Fashion store super star GUESS is going crazy! With their upcoming -50% Sales this Tuesday 24th of January - I can't believe I shared that with you - GUESS is making clear that when "Everything Must Go" banner is on, it means Everything Must indeed Go! Beating all major retailers in Bagatelle, GUESS seems to be THE store to keep in touch with specially when prices range from Rs900 (for a small clutch) to Rs15 000 (for GUESS ensembles)! Furthering their promo offers, they have Fidelity Cards coming in soon along with Gift Vouchers. My apologies on not having any picture from GUESS but according to 'Company policy', none could be taken - shame girls, you would have seen their cute male sales representatives :P All in all, high class retailers will seemingly survive in the Fashion jungle with a bunch of regular high-income customers( Mauritius' version of the Upper East Side residents!) who will be the sole beneficiary of the Fidelity Cards. Poor us, the larger part of the population, the masses, who can, for now, drool in front of their windows. But digging all that information brought new questions...
What is now going to happen to Orchard stores selling Dolce & Gabbana ? Obviously, what they have in store are counterfeit but now that genuine D&G are on the island, wouldn't there be some sort of legal issues? We all remember the Ralph Lauren case few years back when most of the RL retailers had to close down due to some litigation. In addition to D&G, even Paul Smith clothing might get in the mix! Guys, let's stop buying counterfeits, and YES, I know it's hard not not buying these PS items - I mean they look so nice on us - but we have to stop for the sake of principle and the love of genuine leather!
