MODE-K did miss the opportunity to bring you more 'confessions' from Laureates and today, Estelle C., Science side Laureate from LCQB opens up at the reception held by the Hon. Vasant K. Bunwaree at Mahebourg... Being on the guest list did indeed facilitate my reaching there amongst the brightest minds of tomorrow and first in line was Estelle who not only shone at HSC by ranking 2nd on the Science side making the pride of LCQB but also in her dark blue form-fitting bustier dress with a filmy collar neckline which she bought in Port Louis! Interview: Ranked : 2nd Science Side SC Results, if you don't mind : 6 units Q : So, we are wondering, are you an LCQB 'pure blood' ? A : Haha, nopes. I attended Renganaden Seeneevassen SSS until I moved to LCQB in Form 4. Q: Why did you move from a State School to a confessional one ? Loreto Rose Hill Emblem A : Because of the type of education. This blend of academic and non-academic teaching might have had a lot to play in the results this year! Q : Yes, indeed! We have witnessed some sort of "Loreto Power' this year with Laureates from Loreto College Quatres Bornes, Rose Hill and Port Louis! Was this expected ? Are the confessional schools setting the bar higher now on? A : Haha! Well, like I said, this holistic approach was key in shaping us Laureates and helped us achieve so much! Q : So, what's next on the list now that you've earned a scholarship? A : I wanna do Actuarial Sciences - yea, nothing related to conventional sciences but I always liked maths! Q : Bearing in mind that Actuarial Sciences is one of the most popular degree courses at the University of Mauritius, do you still intend on coming back to the island where a pack of Bsc Actuarial Sciences will be waiting for employment? A : Yea yea...lol Q : Stupid question! Of course you will be back, you have to come back work 2 years for the government before pursuing your Master's degree- how do you feel about that? Does that equal 2 years wasted or... A : XXXXXXX Along with Estelle, a bunch of 15 other candidates from confessional schools were ranked in the top 10 all categories included! Although on the boys side, CSE was used to their top seats in the Technical Side, newcomers like St Andrew's College (ranking 4th Art side), St Mary's College (ranking 2nd Technical side) and St Joseph's College (ranking 5th Technical again, FYI, that would be me!) set the ton for this year's 'confessional success'. And this would only be accentuated by the fact that the Science, Art and Technical sides witnessed an unprecedented "Loreto Power' with candidates ranking first in all three (LCQB for Science, LCRH for Art and Technical)! This year more that ever, change has come and we wonder why? Was it luck ? Was it really the holistic education that provided this little extra that propelled candidates to top positions? Well, some want to believe it has. Others say it's mere coincidence. Truth is, no one, at this point, can say matter-of-factually that the confessional system education is working as it should. Mixed abilities is still applied, although at varying degrees from school to school and weird thing is, this 93 generation is that of the first batch of Mixed Abilities...a batch of 6 Laureates and a pack of nationally ranked! I will leave you on this note. Take time to leave comments and/or vote! Sine Cera
