TOP 3 Schools are QEC, RCC and RCPL - the Student Royalty still reigning... Insight Newspaper - QEC Celebrations! With a total of 137 6 units, the 'Sovereign Group' proves it is still in power position... but is that going to change ? Although there is little surprise as to the TOP 3 schools - we might be saying 'yea yea again the same old song', it seems that this tendency for 6 units to come from star schools will be accentuated even further thanks to the A+ System! But let's keep this for another post! Back to our Best Performer & Best Fall! You might think the Best Performer would again be in the "Sovereign Group" but I do not. Actually, according to Le Matinal, Mahatma Gandhi Institute did an impressive come-back on the front-line with twelve 6 units, five 7 units and twenty 8 units! Indeed, let's focus on the MGI/RTI Education. Far from being non-academic, this group caters for more than academic performance by enabling students to chose among a variety of paths towards adulthood - let's face it, not those mainstream Science/Tech/Eco avenues we all know about! No other school can ever pride themselves of being able to host the biggest and most-awaited student competition ever: the Model United Nations! Every student wants to be part of it, at least a major part of us do, yet the MGI alone (together with the Min. of Education obviously) agreed to hold the venue and for 15 years now! This week - axed on Students&Schools - continues with a review of the percentage scheme MES provides us with. Is it really worth it ? Is it a good classifying system ? Loretto Convent Curepipe -property of Isla-Mauricia Once again, Hindu Girls' College is in the limelight but with diametrically opposing reasons.... but let's keep that for later. After a quick review of the statistics published online by the MES, available HERE, it was pretty clear that the 13 colleges - previously grouped under the 100% pass rate - do not stand on equal pedestals and it's a shame no one said anything about this discrepancy! Indeed, with an astounding 212 candidates passing from HGC, it is without a doubt that this school is THE leading one among the 12 others, out of which, even RCC and QEC did not send more than 141 and 154 candidates respectively. Should there have been a quantitative list, HGC would top with 212, followed by Sodnac SSS (160) on the second position. Then, QEC (154) and equal on the fourth place would be RCC and DMC with 141 candidates each...down the list, R Seeneevassen and S.A.R. Mohamed SSS would be equal runner-ups with 36 candidates each and lastly, Islamic Cultural College P Louis would close that 13-college list with 5 - yes 5! - candidates! How can HGC and ICCPL be both in the same band? Even through this percentage scheme might group them together, but qualitatively, they are worlds apart! Moreover, logic would lead us to believe that schools namely LCC (picture), Collège du Saint Esprit and St Joseph's College with 106, 159 and 102 candidates respectively did much better than some schools with 100% pass rate! |
