It has been quite a long time that The Roadstopper had not been updated and I do apologize! But here we are, once again, bringing you style from the streets! Meet Jemina! Going to Orchard Center is always nice - I always get back home with something great, either a piece of clothing or a picture! This Saturday, I came to bump into Jemina, 19, ex-student of Loreto College Rose Hill (wait, another Loreto girl!? After Coraline and Lavinia from Loreto Curepipe and Nilinka's CherryBoo from Loreto Quatres Bornes, it starts looking like a habit of mine!) who - wait for it - participated in Elite Model Look Mauritius! Jemina likes wearing shorts with large tops or tanks. To complete her looks, she likes long necklaces and "tennis-chinois" (yes, you heard me right!) - I was like WHAT? Oh, canvas shoes! As for the colors, well let's say she is not the type who would try attract attention on her with flashy pieces - her height alone would do the "attracting others" part! Seriously, I felt so short in front of her! Why her? Because, although very basic, this look has everything to work well! Indeed, with a basic plain grenat tank top tucked in a high-waist skirt with some sort of Ikat/floral pattern. This daytime look could very well be re-used, with a brown leather jacket and probably a simple plain scarf if it's a chilly evening. The worn-out jean textured spartas look very stuffy but simply add some structure to the whole look. By the way, they do remind me of those original sandals worn by Roman gladiators - the thick straps, the metal nuts and the whole strap design! The tribal-enthnic trend can simply not be missed! Even less when she chose to sport this brown hipster-looking leather bag which matches the look palette (the group of colors worn). Finally, Jemina, as hundreds of girls out there, picked up her Owl necklace to finish off with a fun yet stylish accessory! Note how Jemina chose her jewelry pieces very carefully - all silver! Silver hoop earrings, silver necklace, silver bracelet and silver ring. Girls, watch out for this very subtle yet effective fashion tip. Never mix up gold with silver jewelry pieces! Jemina, big thumbs up! Oh, and one more reason I picked her is that the Tribal-Ethnic trend is the perfect transition from Summer to Winter, so make the most of your tribal pieces before winter settles for good!
P.S. What have you been wearing this summer : Feather necklace! Are you more of a Turquoise or Animal Prints kind of girl : Turqoise What color will you be wearing this winter : Grey Nail polish for this winter : Sorry, but I stick to French Manicure! After having achieved so much success on her first appearance in The Roadstopper, MODE-K thought why not give Jenna one more chance to win more votes!? So, here we are again with Miss Jenna who is the first Roadstopper to have received so much positive feedback in such short time frame! Indeed, accounting for a +90% "Love it all!" votes from readers, she must certainly be our number one to this day! This time, Jenna shares her everyday style with you! As she says herself, she doesn't really have a particular style. "I usually just wear what I feel like wearing in the morning. But I LOVE heels!! Shoes are my weakness." Come on Jenna, that last sentence? Was it really necessary to include! LOL, shoes are everyone's weakness, although heels are every girl's Achilles' heel( hope you get the pun)! But moving on, what about her summer 2012 look ? Well, Jenna seems to be the girl to go out with! With a top, shorts and flip flops or wedges, anyone would be more than willing to hang out with summer personified! About her top, let me say not quite what I would pick for my sister, but I totally agree with the Inca and Ikat patterns! It was very popular last year in Europe and it's time for the Tribal trend to barge in on paradise island! The colors are perfect for summer (yes, I do have something for turquoise and blue this summer - might be a phase!lol). Readers, important notice : sport ONE pattern at a time! Jenna, good job on this one! Indeed, once you have something with a certain pattern whether be it a bag, shoes or top, go plain for other pieces! As Jenna did, chose something casual like her fit-cut pair of jeans and a matching handbag. There is one reason I think this picture should have been on (other than your want for more of Jenna, of course!) is the way she accessorized the whole look! For summer, girls, I keep repeating myself, go GOLD for the very 'Caliente' touch. With her golden hoop earrings and single bangle (which has a certain ethnic touch to it) matches the metalwork on the bag! Brown bag which matches perfect the brown shoes, with golden metalwork as well! You might not be very brown this season (I know I'm not!), but you have to admit that there has been a lot of sifting and match-making before achieving such an inter-related and composed outfit! For that, MAJOR thumbs up! _ Our third Roadstopper was, as our second, met at the reception for Laureates and Nationally Ranked at Mahebourg but rest assured, both have their very particular style...
Our second Roadstopper was found weeks ago at the reception held for Nationally Ranked and Laureates at Pointe Canon, Mahebourg and I do apologise on such belated updates! We are happy to present you Miss Dooshweena A, ex-student of MGI who ranked 3rd in the Art Side at the HSC 2011 examinations! She presents herself as a very top/jean kind of person with a very present touch of sexiness. Indeed, she says "If im dressing to impress, a tight top, tight jeans and heels...Most of the time im wearing a top/t shirt which shows my cleavage!"Although she admits skirts or sundresses aren't her thing, we do not doubt she's any less feminine! On this sunny afternoon at Mahebourg, she "wanted to strike as someone who can be elegant with a hint of casualness at the same time. Yet I think i was kind of overdressed! I would have been more comfortable in a black slim,a cute top and wedges!" Indeed, for a casual-smart look, this might have been slightly over done. But as a Nationally Ranked, therefore with a higher 'invitee status' (Please check the Casual-Smart, Mode d'emploi! post for some insight of invitee status), she is still IN. Indeed, with this very structured form-fitting knee-length black dress à la Brigitte Bardot, Dooshweena immediately set the bar one level higher than being JUST casual-smart. Although black - a very formal and evening color - is very present, the light-brown coffee-colored designs renders the whole outfit much less formal, fortunately! Again, the black front-strap heels give a very evening-wear effect (but we do agree it was a tough job finding something else to wear on such a dress!). The duffle clutch with golden chain-strap on the other hand is the perfect summer accessory (although we would suggest camel, pastel pink or dark-blue rather than black). Our first-ever Roadstopper from Bagatelle Mall of Mauritius! We are proud to present Miss Varsha R. aged 19 and currently pursuing her studies. She presents herself as having a general Casual look without forgetting a chic touch. Her basic yet structured look set her to be a good first choice for MODE-K and what caught my attention on this little piece of woman was, obviously, her 'you-cannot-miss-that' silver ring feather necklace! BLACK is definitely a big No-No for this season but you can never go wrong with a black form-fitting tank top from Red Snapper (check our Summer Chic issue on K-Capture Page where we have our color recommendations for summer). To lessen the skin area around the neck, she chose to accessorize her look with a summer scarf - and yes, we know scarves are not very summer accessories but with a light-blue flowery print on white cotton fabric, it is totally acceptable! To bring forward her chic side, she wore an ICE collection watch together with her gorgeous ALDO silver ring feather necklace which has just the right amount of shine to say "Hey, look out I'm here" without doing too-much! Although we ain't big fans of long jeans this summer, with this shade of blue and the right amount of faded front-lines, she totally makes it work! After all, let's face it, the SLIM is still IN! To finish off the look, she sport grey saddle-shoe inspired footwear which looks so light and comfy - perfect for summer! Here is what Varsha wore from head to toe : Scarf : Reserve Naturelle Top : Red Snapper Necklace : ALDO Watch : ICE collection, MIKADO Jeans : MANGO Shoes : Mr Price P.S. Your summer look 2012 : Jean shorts, flip-flops, and lots of feathers! Your favorites this season : Purse-clutch, FEATHERS! Leopard Print or Turquoise this summer ? Turquoise! MODE-K Coup de Coeur - ALDO necklace! Quite similar to the "showstopper" in the fashion jargon, the 'roadstopper' will, of course, be a person, who, according to certain criteria, deserves to be talked/written about on the blog because he or she has a personal style which appeals to my taste.
Basically, I will be walking the streets, wandering malls, window-shopping camera at hand to spot The Roadstopper. Of course, I won't be hiding behind bushes, acting like a freaky paparazzi but instead politely approach the X person, and question him/her about his/her likings (brands, accessories, anything relevant) and publish a mini-report of that X person along with a head-to-toe picture. I believe this is an interesting project although the real judge would be you readers...So, please let me know what you think of this project - feasible or 'fail-able' ? Sine Cera |
